A nose job is quite common. More than 200 000 rhinoplasties happen yearly.
It depends on what you want to fix and whether it's for functional or cosmetic reasons. A nose job improves breathing and makes the nose more aesthetically pleasing.
Rhinoplasty is an entirely safe procedure. Yes, there are risks involved, but a thorough assessment before the procedure weeds out candidates who don't meet the criteria to undergo surgery.
There's tenderness due to congestion, but other than that, it's generally a simple procedure that doesn't require any unnecessary medication.
It takes about six weeks for your nose to heal.
Most of our surgical procedures are covered by medical aid and hospital schemes. Before surgery, patients receive a comprehensive quote which includes our practice charges.
A closed procedure isn’t as apparent as an open rhinoplasty. For a closed rhinoplasty, two cuts are hidden under the nose whereas, for an open rhinoplasty, there’s an additional incision also known as a trans-columellar cut.
The type of surgery you wish to choose depends on what part and extent of your nose need to be corrected. One of the benefits of closed rhinoplasty is that there's no scarring and even if there's a slight trace of the rhinoplasty after an open procedure, it's hardly visible.
Revision surgery comes with complications. Not to say it's not possible, but we need to assess the condition of your nose first to identify any aesthetic inconsistencies.
It’s not possible to operate in the first few months after your initial rhinoplasty because the tissues are still inflamed. It helps to wait rather than undergo a hasty revision. We advise on the most appropriate time to operate.
Rhinoplasty s a day care procedure.
The entire procedure lasts between 1-3 hours.
Packing isn’t necessary, but we apply soft splints inside your nose. These splints have holes to facilitate breathing. At a follow-up consultation, one week after the rhinoplasty, we remove the splints.
Nasal obstruction is a common complication of rhinoplasty, but because we specialise in ear, nose and throat conditions, we improve the appearance of your nose without any breathing impairment.
Children shouldn’t undergo a rhinoplasty. Your nasal tissues have to have already developed for a rhinoplasty to take place.
We specialise in sinonasal surgery, laryngology, endoscopic nasolacrimal duct repair, general otolaryngology, nasal surgery, grommet placement and tonsillectomy.
